Institutions are evaluated on what can be seen. Structures fail on what cannot. The Institute works in the distance between the two.
Marble Lion™ does not predict secrets. It identifies when an organisation enters the zone where it needs a secret to survive.

Two clocks run
at different speeds.
Performance is the clock the market reads. Corrective capacity is the clock that determines the outcome. The interval between the last reversible moment and the first visible failure is where the Institute works — and it is the only window in which a decision still changes anything.
Each pathway is shown at its own corrective capacity. Signals are identical across all four.
Marble
Lion™
When evidence remains visible but loses the power to correct the system.
The name is literal. A lion carved in marble keeps every feature of the animal — the posture, the mane, the authority of the form — and none of its capacity to move. Organisations reach the same condition. The programme studies how they arrive there, how long the state can be sustained, and at what point it stops being reversible.

How the Institute
reads a structure.
The method is deliberately slow and deliberately narrow. It works only on evidence that existed at the moment being read, and it records what it concludes before the outcome is known.

Observation window
A period is fixed and closed. Only sources dated on or before the end of that period are admissible. Nothing that came later is allowed to enter the reading, including the outcome itself.

Reading
The structure is read on its corrective capacity rather than on its results. The instrument records what the system is still able to do with what it already knows.
- Movement 03
Seal
The reading is timestamped and sealed before any outcome is observable, together with the conditions that would invalidate it. A reading that cannot be wrong is not recorded.

Opening and audit
Sealed readings are opened on a fixed calendar and scored against what occurred. Errors are published with the same visibility as the rest.
Discipline of abstention
Where the evidence does not converge, the Institute does not issue a reading. The abstention is itself recorded.

Corrective capacity is treated as a measurable property of a structure rather than a quality of its decision-makers. It can fall while information quality rises.

What differs across jurisdictions is not whether corrective capacity falls, but what constrains it: ownership concentration, access to capital, the speed of regulatory response, and the cost of admitting error in public. The research frame is comparative from the outset rather than extended outward from a single market.

A claim is only
a claim if it can be
wrong in public.
Readings of live systems are sealed before outcomes exist and opened on a fixed calendar. The record is the instrument’s only real defence, and it is built the only way such a record can be built: in advance, in the open, and at the risk of being wrong.

- A dated reading of a named system, the window it applies to, and the explicit conditions that would invalidate it.
- How it is sealed
- Timestamped and cryptographically hashed at the moment of issue, so that neither the content nor the date can be revised afterwards.
- When it opens
- On a fixed annual calendar, independent of whether the readings proved favourable to the Institute.
- What is published
- Every sealed reading, scored under a proper scoring rule — the correct ones, the incorrect ones, and the abstentions.
The auditable claim is the ledger, including its errors. Not a percentage.
Founded by
Marcela Montiel.
The Montiel Institute gives institutional form to a research program initiated in 2012 and first articulated in private papers in 2023.
The programme did not begin in a university. It began inside operating companies, over twenty-five years of executive responsibility, where the difference between a structure that can still correct itself and one that only appears to is not a theoretical question but a weekly one.

Does not claim
- Access to private information. Marble Lion™ does not predict secrets; it identifies the zone in which a secret becomes necessary.
- The status of a validated theory. This is a theoretical research programme until it survives publication and independent replication.
- An accuracy figure. No figure is claimed before the sealed record has been opened and scored.
- Advice. Nothing published constitutes investment, credit, legal, or professional advice.
